چکیده

Soil salinity due to irrigation is a major constraint agriculture, particularly in arid and semi-arid zones, water scarcity high evaporation rates. Reducing fundamental objective for protecting the soil supporting agricultural production. The present study aimed empirically measure simulate with model, reduction Vertisol by cultivation of Echinochloa stagnina. Laboratory column experiments were conducted test three treatments: (i) ponded bare without crops, (ii) cultivated E. stagnina two successive cropping seasons (iii) permanently staggered harvest. After 11 months growth, electrical conductivity saturated paste (ECe) decreased 79–88% topsoil layer (0–8 cm) both soils soil. In contrast, deepest (18–25 cm), ECe more (41–83%) than (32–58%). Salt stocks, which initially similar columns, (65–87%) (34–45%). simulation model Hydrus-1D was used predict general trends compare them measurements. Both measurements predictions highlighted contrast between seasons: slowly during first season rapidly second following intercropping season. Our results also suggested that planting promising option controlling saline-sodic Vertisols.

Stability of a Calcareous Saline-Sodic Soil During Reclamation

General guidelines to reclaim saline or sodic soils do not adequately consider variables such as pH and the presence of organic matter that are known to affect soil stability. Poor structural stability of sodic, saline-sodic, and high-pH soils adversely influences crop yields; promotes piping, tunneling, and slope erosion; and can accelerate the failure of water conveyance systems. We evaluated...

1 Sodic Soil Reclamation Using Multicomponent Transport Modeling

High contents of soluble salts accumulated in a soil can significantly decrease the value and productivity of agricultural lands. Present recommendations for reclamation are usually based only on relatively simple and often empirical relations. In this paper we give a brief overview of many unique physical and chemical factors important to reclamation contained in the one-dimensional multicompo...

Sodic soil reclamation: Modelling and field study

Reclamation of sodic soils has traditionally been undertaken using calculation of gypsum or Ca requirement assuming 100% exchange efficiency and neglect of the contribution of calcium carbonate in the profile. The UNSATCHEM model is reviewed and then evaluated for its ability to predict field reclamation of a sodic saline soil. The 40-ha field site was initially at an electrical conductivity (E...
